A supercomputer is a computer that is at the frontline of current processing capacity, particularly speed of calculation. A global leader in supercomputing, Cray Inc. has released a new supercomputer that is labelled as Personal.

The Cray CX1-iWS system combines a fully featured Microsoft Windows 7 workstation with a 24-core Intel Xeon Processor 5500 series cluster running Windows® HPC Server® 2008 – all in a convenient deskside form factor that can be run without any special power or machine room infrastructure. The Workstation features an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card that can support two high definition monitors for visualization.

The Cray CX1-iWS system reinvents the workstation for the next era of technical computing. Engineers, scientists, researchers and other workstation users are continually challenged with more complex problems and shorter deadlines in which to solve them. The Cray CX1-iWS product addresses both of these issues by allowing larger models and simulations to be worked within the workstation environment, eliminating the need to move the problem to an external shared resource cluster. The result is more productive engineers and scientists, faster product development and time to insight, and workflow that avoids unnecessary disruption.

The Cray CX1-iWS has a starting price of $55,000 and it can run call of duty if you are wondering!
