Try to imagine a universe without any color. It is an absolutely impossible task, isn't it? How can anything that has mass and weight ever be seen as a mere outline? Even if there aren't too many hues around, the basic shades of black and white just must exist, and these two are, after all, colors, aren't they? Without their minimal existence, our entire world will go topsy-turvy, for otherwise, how will we be able to tell one object from another, or gauge the other aspects that characterize it, such as weight, texture, even the material from which it is formed, etc?
Adinkra symbols are used in Western Africa. They are very popular there and they are used on clothes, walls, poetry and logos. The names of the symbols are in Akan, which is the language of Ashanti tribe in Ghana. Each one of the symbols stands for a certain meaning and there is a dictionary that explains each one of the Adinkra symbols. One of the Symbols is Mate Masie, which is shown in this picture. Mate Masie means "I have heard, and I will keep it", which means being obedient. Mate Masie also symbolizes knowledge and wisdom. It may also be used in reference to learning and education. Many designers and artists have been inspired by the Adinkra symbols, and they use them in their art work. Eventually, Adinkra symbols have been stylized and paired with modern designs of furniture and home accessories.
